Big Mikes Monday Thoughts and Live Blog Bet

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Sports bets were OK but Racing bets were insipid over the weekend and a good reason to have a divergence of bets when its tricky as I have warned just now. Hopefully you managed stake retrieval on Nina’s mount as the Mullins Bumper machine continued unabated. What I did for hedging purposes was to Dutch the front four without Bacher Boy. I think whichever way you decided to hedge showed the importance of being a ‘reverse bookmaker’ as they of course would have done the same thing. Never risk losing the lot.

The Rugby League bet completed a good weekend in the sport and I do know many members piled in when Sean Long failed his fitness test on his broken jaw. How you do that God only knows. A new one on me. Nice to see 2 ‘unfashionable’ sides at Wembley as new spectators and supporters will be attracted that way.

The Turbo saved the place bet on Buck Mulligan (very, very poor ride by Ruby and would have been stood down in GB if he had had the gall to employ the same tactics over here) but the other two never reached a challenging position.

In the Test Australia completed a facile victory and our position now can be hedged at The Oval if required BUT I will still be trading the Test as it’s the most important these lads will be facing for years. If picked Messrs Harmison, Collingwood, Bell etc will be playing for their Test futures whereas Messrs Broad, Onions & Bopara face particular vicious scrutiny. Fred HAS to play for England to have the remotest chance and as it’s a One Test Series I would bring in Ramps & also the Yorkshire leg spinner. Of course changes won’t be made by the establishment as its not ‘done’ is it? We really should change our focus.

Today sees the start of the All Weather Season. Of course not officially but as far as I am concerned it does. The two afternoon ‘Headline’ meetings are both AW – typical planning of course. Newcomers to Racing (yes I have quite a few I am pleased to say, as hopefully they will be playing with other peoples money shortly (for ever as well) should remember also that the form at Southwell in particular is SO different to any other AW meeting. Please always remember that fact. Very important.

Not much in the way of crafty betting today even though I have a blog bet for you.

Just One Live Blog Bet from me today an £8 Hughie (A bet on the horse to finish placed i.e. 1st, 2nd or 3rd and is played via Betfair’s place markets)

£8 place only on Bonheurs Art 6.20 Wind (Fav has been well touted but Mr Hughes is on board so we have a chance with this one – given a very soft ride by this jock at Goodwood and as usual there should be more to come tonight.) pitching at 1.26

Price at the end is price to take or if pitching and not taken then bet 5 mins pre race at best. Obviously take care & adjust when drifting substantially or if horses taken out

Big Mike’s Sunday Thoughts

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

Saturday was very mixed wasnt it? Some odd results and rides.

I Particularly felt that Hamiltons ride on the ‘shoe in’ was questionable. OK maybe the first 2 were better but the third? Must admit I never saw that coming even though the ‘saver’ romped home. Racing continues to be very hard to crack and this month in particular has historically been even more tricky. Last years approach of being over cautious proved very effective so I will tread a smilar path. Selectivity is the key.

So again no ‘Live Blog Bet’ from me again today.

Big Mikes Saturday Thoughts

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

The Trade went well and in effect we had finished for the day at Noon!

For those Trading please average your green to square up. There should be a green profit of between £20 & £30 depending on the price you managed to achieve on the escalating draw price. When will these lemmings ever learn?

So I may trade again with a clean sheet but we need two teams to make a match but at the moment we only have 1 and a half. Lets see what Saturday brings and any updates will be on the Forum/Chat Room.

4/4 Turbos landed on Friday. Not a winner in sight but all placed it to show those new to the column how to make money in this way. Its not them win that matters its the WINNING BET. Please type out 100 times and stick it on a ‘Post it’ on your PC. The wife/husband will be delighted to see such messages. Way to go. Keep building that bank up slowly but surely.

No Live Blog Bet from me today.

Big Mikes Friday Thoughts

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Fred OUT! Early column as I think the Test Match trade will provide the best way to make a profit over the next few days. The Shergar Cup at Ascot is a definite no go area for me and I suggest yourselves when it comes to punting.

Keep your eyes on the Chat Room if Trading and also the Sports heading on the Forum where I will update all trades.

Annual subs will be due in September and I will make this offer to all annual players. Any LOSS on this Test Match trade can be DEDUCTED from next years Annual subscription. Maybe I am being over confident here but I cannot see a draw here but if looking likely I will be doing my level best to ensure that by the end of the Test that we stay on green on that line.

For first time Traders – try the Test Trade at reduced stakes. Remember I have members who play for 10x stakes hence my middle of the road pitch. Two Trades made already. Third in the process.

The third one is to bet £10 on Australia @ best before the start of play.

Currently the Position is :-

E + 50
A + 50
D – 78

before the Aussie trade

More moves to be advised shortly.

5/6 Turbos landed on Thursday including Butlers Glen who seemed to have a mishap at the Furlong pole. Backed to 105 in running the Turbo shows why its SO important to play and I hope those who have not transferred their view point to look again. We will be let down time and again over the year for one reason or other so do take this evasive action.

My apologies re the Paddy Power offer. Use your £100 free bet however you wish. If you want a guaranteed £50 cash find an even money favourite to back for £100 with PP and lay back £50 to Betfair. The Chelsea bet at Ladbrokes was at 15/1 and not 9/4 by the way. Apologies for the typo.

In Racing – Not much of interest today again and no ‘Live Blog Bet’ from me today.

Big Mikes Thursday Thoughts

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Very pleased in the circumstances with yesterdays winning Double and Buzzer and close too with the DD. I posted elsewhere about Mick Kinane. It really is time for him to pack up as in my view Berry would have won by over a length on Alakhan. Loyalty goes a long way in my book but financial expertise goes further. Kinane WAS a great jockey and can still steer but hes not the man I want in a tight finish any more.

Nevertheless 6/6 Hughies. Those who played the Turbos still better off of course. Remember if we DOUBLE the stake then lay at one third the price we will always be in clover. Its a sound practice and I am extremely satisfied with the progress we are making.

Laying. The Racing Post scribes. Just one winner from 7 on Wednesday so we have quickly built up profits of 10% on the original bank of £200 in a matter of days. The new liability of £11 per horse has been triggered. Please dont get over excited just yet as no doubt they are all due a better day soon. I am looking at a way to lay the RP teams ‘naps’ over 5/1 and maybe we should look at a separate bank here to place lay them especially in Handicaps. Watch this space on that one.

In Soccer Ladbrokes have surpassed themselves with generally the best price around the Leagues. I have played a long term Lucky 31 bet with them in today’s column.

Paddy Power have a bet which should be played via their telephone operation as a free bet of £100 is also given. I have played another long term bet around this offer in today’s column. Yes I am aware its a seasons long bet but a big profit is a big profit. Plenty of laying opportunities. If you have an account with PP already ask the wife to open one instead and give her £25 extra for doing so. Still a good deal.

Redknapps. Will; be starting soon and probably playing via the Forum Chatroom for members and/or MSN – haven’t decided just yet so keep eyes skinned. Likely to be between the 4th & 5th Test.

No Live Blog Bet from me today, However if you would like to receive a free copy of today’s column containing the above bets, then email my Gal Friday – Luan on luan7677@hotmail.com (who is now back from her cruise) and she will set you up as a free member and send you today’s full column.
