Big Mike’s Sunday Thoughts and Live Blog Bet

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

One major event for me today when the Manchester club (Citeh) travels out of City limits into Trafford to play Man Utd. Fergie is rattled and coming up with some plain daft observations such as the only `derby` United have is with Liverpool (some 30 miles away) so maybe he may change his tune come 4pm this afternoon. Its a shame that City are without so many today as otherwise I think Hughes would have gone to attack – even so I will be enjoying a feisty affair I feel.

A more potent RL match tonight where we have an `elimination` match between Wigan & Castleford. We are already on the Pies for the Outright and Richards and Tomkins for Top Tryscorer so as a hedge will be taking Cas on the Handicap.

In addition we are on Hunslet for the Outright and my man there tells me that the Hawks are confident of an upset today so we will be going again with them in receipt of a Handicap of 2.5 on Betfair.

In Racing Pricewise fans were sticking their tongues out at me yesterday but I will have the last laugh – I am confident about that. Today we have a few interesting selections and hopeful that we will upset a few layers.

£5 profit in the The Trading Room on Saturday and a throwaway 14/1 winner in Jimmy Styles in the Gluesniffer. I will have another go during the week if it pans out OK.

Tomorrow will see either a very early column or indeed a very late column or even no column at all as I am in Yorkshire early doors meeting up with some Horse contacts for the Winter. Expensive time of year for me!

Just one Live Blog Bet from me today a £12 Hughie (A bet on the horse to finish placed i.e. 1st, 2nd or 3rd and is played via Betfair’s place markets)

£12 place only at Betfair SP – Agente Romano 300 Plump (Beginning to look a bad purchase ex Gerard Butler but the jury`s still out with me as a quality horse. Needs to win this one for me to be proven Not Guilty though!)

Price at the end is price to take or if pitching and if not taken then bet 5 mins pre race at best. Obviously take care & adjust when drifting substantially or if horses are taken out.

Big Mike’s Saturday Thoughts and Live Blog Bet

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

I responded to a member re Turbo/Hughie performance since 1st September on the Forum last night. He raised some valid points and hopefully my answer may have helped in his long term approach.

We are still in the silly Season which we encounter twice a year amidst the transitional period between Flat & NH & these waters are always troubled and I have chronicled the points countless times before. Its just part of the job unfortunately and either I go no bets or still fight the elements which I always do. At least the doubles have helped this month but the Hughies have been poor so I have reintroduced a further filter today which hopefully will improve the strike rate fairly rapidly. Its still hold onto your hats time though but at least we have NH back tomorrow.

Pricewise landed a whopper yesterday but Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury please believe me when I say that following such bets only is the route to the poor house. Sure he will get the big catch at times but it was only a few months ago when the poor lad couldn`t buy a winner for weeks and weeks. Consistent profits are the name of the game and a defensive approach to ones betting. Its the only way to build up the bank and then by all means use some of that profitable bank for his selections – in other words use other peoples money to do so.

The Trading efforts in the Chatroom realised a net £25 profit and I will have another bash today for those who are interested. I shall be there this afternoon in the hope of hitting that £25 again.

There was a `belter` of a frame at Catterick but alas the Bookies saw it too and brown envelopes have killed the bet.

Hull KR went the same way as Halifax last night and it was plain to see that there was little effort at all in the second half. Tricky times when one side knows it has another crack of the whip next week.

Just one Live Blog Bet from me today a £12 Hughie(A bet on the horse to finish placed i.e. 1st, 2nd or 3rd and is played via Betfair’s place markets)

£12 place only on Beyond Desire 235 Ayr (Very useful horse and has comfortably the best form here & an outside draw.) pitching at 1.23

Price at the end is price to take or if pitching and if not taken then bet 5 mins pre race at best. Obviously take care & adjust when drifting substantially or if horses are taken out.

Big Mike’s Friday Thoughts and Live Blog Bet

Friday, September 18th, 2009

I will be in the Chatroom this afternoon if any member is interested to come down as I intend to trade a few races no doubt to the disdain of a couple of North European Traders who appear on there from time to time.

Come on down as you will be very welcome.

Our 4th winning Double in the last 6 days still worked out about 11/2 so well worth having to follow the 16/1, 17/1 and a smaller double in this period. Very odd how they have all come together especially as cards and frames are just plain awful. Fingers crossed today as I do like a couple.

Halifax were indeed hammered last night but you have to understand the Rugby League player Mercenary `psyche` here. It was knock out match BUT there was a second bite available. The big payout for the player is to win the Grand Final and Fax are still in the competition and will play Widnes or Featherstone next Thursday. The players knew this of course which may have accounted for some powder puff defence in the match.

Tonight we have Leeds v Hull KR and HKR are another team who will produce a different effort to last weeks poor show at Wakefield. Although a big bet is tempered by the fact that this is not an elimination match and the losers will have another crack next week so again I am a bit wary.

In racing one of my noted horses appears today. It came to prominence when bolting at Donny pre race and ran the full distance before going back to the start and racing. Amazingly finished 2nd and beaten by a neck and this little (literally) trainer deserves some respect for his efforts on this stable star.

Just one Live Blog Bet from me today an £8 Hughie (A bet on the horse to finish placed i.e. 1st, 2nd or 3rd and is played via Betfair’s place markets)

£8 place only on Skylla 330 Ayr (See note above) It came to prominence when bolting at Donny pre race and ran the full distance before going back to the start and racing. Amazingly finished 2nd and beaten by a neck and this little (literally) trainer deserves some respect for his efforts on this stable star. ) pitching at 1.70

Price at the end is price to take or if pitching and if not taken then bet 5 mins pre race at best. Obviously take care & adjust when drifting substantially or if horses are taken out.

Big Mike’s Thursday Evening Thoughts and Live Blog Bet

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

European Footie yet again tonight but very much Europeans answer to the Johnstone Paints Cup – Even the Mighty Citeh didnt even qualify for the Europa as the garrulous Mark Hughes plans to rule the world rather than just East Manchester. His next test of course is to find a striker fit enough to take on the Reds on Sunday which should be quite a game and hopefully we will have £100 at stake so I suppose it was one way of bribing errant members to follow the Blues this season. Having said that of course we are on them via the Handicap at the start of the season so lets hope we can land that 15/1 bet at least.

I believe this is the longest period in the year when no National Hunt meetings are held so if we can tread water this week I will be more than happy.

Just one Live Blog Bet from me today an £12 Hughie (A bet on the horse to finish placed i.e. 1st, 2nd or 3rd and is played via Betfair’s place markets)

£12 place only on Expressive 810 Wolves (Has been there and thereabouts on the AW whereas short priced fav has no experience here so worth looking at the alternative here with Sir Michael still in grand form.) pitching at 1.20

Price at the end is price to take or if pitching and if not taken then bet 5 mins pre race at best. Obviously take care & adjust when drifting substantially or if horses are taken out.

Big Mike’s Sunday Thoughts and Live Blog Bet

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Better day all round on Saturday so feeling a bit perkier today. The Oxx Roast Combo Return of £150+ was the catalyst to my mood this morning after a poor week. The Turbos finished the week down by £124.67p so the Revised Bank there is £1875.33p. Mrs Marsland has ticked me off this morning so I will be studying even more over the coming week.

Fields look a bit better today.

Just one Live Blog Bet from me today an £8 Hughie (A bet on the horse to finish placed i.e. 1st, 2nd or 3rd and is played via Betfair’s place markets)

£8 place only on William’s Wishes 300 W (beaten by Hendo’s Erzen in the Spring when backed. Erzen then went on to complete a classy double so ability there with Williams Wishes. (FAV is useful but VERY short.) Pitched at 1.30

Price at the end is price to take or if pitching and if not taken then bet 5 mins pre race at best. Obviously take care & adjust when drifting substantially or if horses are taken out.
