Good morning. Results have been pretty good recently with only the unplaced Conor Zur upsetting things yesterday. Of course we knew our fate before the race with the two ‘rags’ coming out, no doubt assisted by the brown envelopes from the layers. The basic question to be asked is whether the horse would have been the selection had the race been advertised with 6 runners and only 2 places to be paid out on. The answer of course is no and even though the horse hated the going up there we basically were defrauded yet again by the system. Of course Betfair is our only remedy for those precious 3 spots for each way backers.
The new Text Service should start in September for those punters only able to use such a facility so its a ‘watch this space’ on that at the moment. I will give further details nearer the time.
As many of you know I try and organise intermittent ‘Big Mikes AGMs’ in Portugal (think we have had 4/5 so far) – cant remember – must be the sun – anyway the Hotel (A Colina) we use seems to have run into difficulties. Sal and I went up there to see a sign that it was ‘ Bed & Breakfast’ only and when we went in to have a nosy around we saw an ‘accountant looking’ (takes one to know one) lass with a laptop. I asked where Lee was (the owner) and ‘Senorita new staff’ answered that he was at the Airport. Rui has gone too which is very bad news as he was an anchor there. Adding 2 and 2 then the answer doesnt look too good. Anybody out there wishing to lend Big Mike £1 million to buy the place please let me know by first post on Friday. LOL.
So we have to look elsewhere & we have been scouring the neighbourhood in an effort to find a suitable venue. Well I have found a cracker. Problem being though is the pricing. Whereas A Colina was 79 Euros per day (Per Room for 2) including Breakfast the possible new venue is 118 Euros per day. I will continue to try & beat them down on price but the venue is perfect for the AGM. All rooms for instance have Satellite TV with all the Sky Sports Channels plus Racing UK & AttheRaces. Two pools – one indoor and one outdoor – paddling pool for Bob Bolch (as it adjoins the Outdoor Bar) – an indoor Gym (will suit Gareth Jones) – a Golf Driving Range – Jacuzzi, Sauna, Turkish Bath, Squash and a Putting Green. Sounds good doesnt it?
My new season starts next Wednesday and is the 10th year for me so hopefully I am doing something right as many members have been with me for much of that time. The new season will give me time to IMPROVE the returns made from our different bets. Many who follow the bets are using excellent strategies to both safeguard their stakes and returns. Remember trying to bet ‘professionally’ entails a completely different mindset.
Its all a question of not wanting to lose and like a Football Manager its important to have a sound defence. Gone are the days of ‘tipsters’ though some still flourish by selling their wares to the gullible punter. The way forward is to have a structured plan and to stick to it through thick and thin. Betfair allows us the opportunity to do just that by following the strategy.
Manchester City. Well the bet lost as City scored early but to be honest I was pleasantly surprised to see the huge improvement after that first half at White Hart Lane. The Manager is of course known as ‘Bobby Manc’ and if he can maintain the improvement just maybe ‘Citeh’ can challenge for honours this season. Early Days.
Salford. What can I say? I knew the Reds were understrengh but apparently they were a shambles. The Chairman was upset. The lad sent me a Text and said that many players seem to have ‘put their cues in the rack’ (super expression) in reference to the many Out of Contract players we have. Thank goodness the 6 signings for 2011 look top notch compared to the bunch who ‘played’ on Sunday. One match to go and my bet at 5/1 for Salford to finish bottom looks promising though I would hate to collect. The Reds have one match to play v Wakefield and its a MUST win. Personally I will be hedging my bet and will be backing Catalans/Quins as well to ensure a good profit. The Chairman I am sure will be offering a big financial carrot to beat the Yorkshiremen and as all Rugby League players are mercenaries that gesture from the man at the top may just be good enough to turn fortunes around.
Test Match Creekit. Advance Notice. I will be Trading the Match and will start off by laying the draw.
Just on of my bets today for the blog;
2 x £5 win singles & £10 ew half equally divided double (do not play the
second single if there are returns from the first horse.)
Battleoftrafalgar 19:05 Sligo
Astral Flower 19:10 Kempton Park
Also, it could be tricky hedging this bet tonight with the races just 5 minutes apart.
