Big Mikes Wednesday Thoughts and Live Blog Bet

England have won the toss and bat. 2 spinners in for E & Clark out for A.

Currently the the position in the ‘creekit’ trade is +£10 Eng +£10 Aus +£6.60 The Draw but more mines and pegs are in place. Long way to go yet.

Sadly attending the funeral today of a fine Sportsman, fellow Chartered Accountant andPersonal friend – Bernard Ganley. He was a GB International Rugby League player and also top class cricketer. In the twilight of his career he played for my local village team and even in his mid seventies could swing the ball both ways and then mix up his bowling with cutters and off breaks. He died 10 days ago at the age of 82. He had a great range of stories and if you are coming down to the Faro event in October please remind me to tell you one or two.

Faro. October 9th/10th. Excellent little `Country` Hotel with super food and pool etc. We are there 2 nights and it will be fun. 6 members already signified interest so please email me if you want to be added to the `possibles`. Only 11 rooms there by the way. Hopefully we should all learn a few things (me included!)

Spencer at Ponty. Several emails about his ride and Neil in the Chatroom even questioned Luca Cumani`s instructions to finish 4th. Well maybe we are all getting a bit neurotic about riders finishing 4th – yes I know it happens a lot – but I think this time Spencer was trying to be too smart. The horse was a trier and should have finished 2nd. I think you can put all the blame down to Spencer not Cumani. The rider had a gap to go through at the furlong pole yet chose to bring the horse to the rail where the eventual runner up blocked his path. Pilot error definitely.

Nice double completed last night and we may have had another but for the abandonment at Uttoxeter. Summer Jumping – too MUCH water! The story gets worse.

Two ‘Live Blog Bets’ from me today

Both £4 ‘Hughies’ We have had a good run, so I am risking £8 of our profit, split across the two selections today but with reduced stakes.

An £4 Hughie (A place bet played via Betfair’s place markets on the horse finishing in the places i.e. 1st, 2nd, or 3rd)

Capercaillie 235 New (4th in Queen Mary so top class but up against 2 others – at least – with major claims. Just feel this may need a bit further and of course we have an enigmatic jockey who doesnt always ride out shall we say for ew punters. All built in the price for me.)

£4 place only on Spiekeroog 515 Cat (Distance is key and Mr Cecil has upped him again here and can upset the fav.)NB Only TWO places to aim at here but I think this is a match between the front two.)
